Monday Movie Madness - The Perks of Being a Wallflower Review

Movie: The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Time Length: 1 hr 43 mins
Rated: M
Who Stars in it? Emma Watson (Hermione from Harry Potter), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & the Olympians)
My Rating: 8/10
Type of Movie: heartfelt movie with romance and comedy elements
Comments: It wasn’t the usual Blockbuster movie, this was a movie with a bit more heart. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It was about a young boy struggling with depression and trauma, who tries to make friends at a new school. Normally, I would say this is aimed at teenagers, but this movie is great for adults too. I really, really enjoyed this film.
Should I wait for it to come out on DVD? Absolutely. It’s the type of movie that would be great to watch at home – there is no special effects, etc that make it worthwhile for the big screen.
Cons of the movie: Made me cry.
You would like this movie if you liked… The Intouchables
Do not watch this movie if… you don’t have an emotional side or don’t like Emma Watson with short hair.

My favourite movies of 2012
1. The Hobbit (in anticipation)
2. The Hunger Games
3. Argo
4. The Amazing Spiderman
5. The Avengers/Ted/Seven Psychopaths

2012 movies that disappointed me
1. The Dark Knight
2. Prometheus
3. American Pie: Reunion
4. Skyfall (I am expecting to hear some negative replies for this)

A poetry piece

Life

This poem is dedicated to all those tragically involved in the Texas Dark Knight horror.

25.07.12

Sleeping, but awake
Unflavoured life continues
Unwritten outlook.

What's it going to be?
Nine still critical
Life stirring.

Is it real or all a dream?
Cool with a hint of promise
Yet torrential rain.

It's you, not me
The rigidness of flexibility
Absurd notions

To Watch or Not to Watch? Movies of 2012

Come Friday night, I am so exhausted from work, and so glad to see the back of another stressful week. In order to completely switch off from work, my boyfriend and I spend Friday nights at the cinema - it forces us to relax, have a laugh and above all - not talk about work.

The 3 movies that I have seen lately and which have have left an impression are: John Carter (in 3D), 21 Jump St, and The Hunger Games.

Let's first talk about John Carter, the flop of the century. Out of ten, it would just scrape 2 stars, mainly because it gave me the opportunity to eat popcorn and drink coke. What a disaster of a movie and I wouldn't even know where to begin. Whilst the special effects were on par with current movies, and the last two minutes of the movie was an "oh!" moment - it could not make up for the remaining 122 minutes of a poor attempt to replicate Star Wars. The acting was shocking, and despite being in 3D, the movie had a strange 2D quality about it - with lights that were too bright, and their voices coming out as echoes like ones that you would hear from an old TV set. Overall, save your money...and don't wait for it to come out on dvd.

21 Jump Street, however, was a surprisingly humorous comedy with fresh jokes and great entertainment value. Channing Tatum's good looks were just a huge bonus. Rating would be a 7.5/10.

Last, but definitely not in any way least - The Hunger Games - the most anticipated movie of the year. I watched it last night, without managing to contain my excitement. After having read the books and watched the trailers at least 100 times, I could not keep in my seat. The movie was remarkable - and largely because it showed a different perspective than what was offered by the book. The book focuses on Katniss' story and is seen through her eyes - whilst the film flits back and forth between what is happening on the outside of the arena and what is happening in Katniss' world. Katniss' performance was outstanding and in fact, all of the cast were cleverly selected. Rating = 8.5/10. I will be going back to see it a second-time tomorrow.

Travel Article

Just started writing a humorous travel article - and it's a real challenge. Whilst my experiences in Hawaii were extremely hilarious at the time, I am not sure that reading them will have the same effect. I am attempting to keep my sentences succinct and not over "fluff" them...

At the moment I have a backbone to the story, but my favourite part is actually moulding it to be synthesised and easy to read. I have hand-picked a few photos to send into the Travel magazine which include panoramic shots with my underwater camera, so I hope that they will be accepted too. I think photographs can really make your article seem more appealing. See:

Proscuitto wrapped asparagus that I made
Anyway, now that I have got you hungry...Before you dash off to eat some food, let me know about your article writing experiences. Have you had something published? What method worked for you? What photos did they like?

No Motivation

Ah. NaNoWriMo is almost out the door, but my novel is certainly not.

In fact I haven't addressed my dear characters in over two months and am beginning to lose some hope. I feel so tired in the evenings to sit down and gather my thoughts. Even as we speak my eyelids are closing and only my fingers are tapping away with certainty.

What can I do to motivate myself? Any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY welcomed!

My first publication

My first publication
I am so terribly excited that I was published as the Letter of the Month in this issue (November 2011) of the Women's Health Magazine. I sent the letter off as my third assignment from the WB course and within 2 weeks the magazine had gotten in contact to let me know that they were going to publish it! (I must admitt that I did "wooop" out loud and make every family member read it)

I haven't received the products yet, but I have posted an image of my publication so that you can see.

I would be really interested to know of anyone else who has had something published. What was it? Were you as shocked as I was?
